"He did his best with my 30+ year-old washing machine. He moved it from the wall and tilted it in order to test out from the bottom of the machine whether or not it was a simple fix, but it was not to be. The engine was no longer functioning. After examining the machine for 45 minutes, he charged $75. He advised keeping the dryer unless I could get a deal on both washer and dryer. He also made recommendations on which brands to consider purchasing. He was prompt and knowledgeable. I would definitely recommend him."

Simple relocations within the same room take one to two days to complete. Moving to another room on the same floor often requires two to three days, while relocations to different floors can take a week or longer. The timeline extends when structural modifications are needed or when unexpected issues arise during demolition. Weather and contractor availability may also affect scheduling.
While technically possible, some locations are more practical than others. Ideal locations have access to water supply lines, drainage, proper electrical service, and exterior walls for venting. Basements offer easier drainage but might need pumps for discharge. Upper floors require sufficient structural support and special consideration for potential water damage. Proper ventilation is essential regardless of location.
Strategically relocating laundry facilities to more convenient locations can enhance your home's marketability and potentially increase its value. First-floor laundry rooms are particularly desirable for many homebuyers. While the exact value increase varies by market, improved functionality and convenience are significant selling points. The return on investment is highest when moving laundry from inconvenient basement locations to main living areas.
Drainage issues often top the list of complications, particularly when moving to upper floors. Inadequate venting can lead to moisture problems or create fire hazards. Electrical capacity limitations may require panel upgrades. Older homes frequently reveal hidden issues like outdated plumbing or electrical systems that need addressing. Space constraints can also complicate installations, especially in retrofitted closets or tight utility rooms.
For many homeowners, the convenience of main-floor laundry justifies the investment. Eliminating stairs makes laundry more accessible, especially for those with mobility concerns or families with young children. However, with costs potentially reaching $5,000 or more for upper-floor relocations, you should weigh the convenience against your budget and how long you plan to remain in the home. Consider your specific needs and daily routine when making this decision.
