On Friday morning, I consulted Angi's List for what I thought was a local (New Braunfels, TX) appliance repair company and got two names. I contacted G&I Appliance and they responded. I gave them the information about my refrigerator (brand, model #, etc.) and the problem I was having with the freezer. They sent an estimate which I approved. Gilbert arrived late the same day to perform the repair. He replaced the compressor, did a lot of soldering, tested the gauges, etc. He could not get the computer to update but said the it must have updated on its own. He said to call him in a couple of days if the freezer was not working. On Monday, I texted him that the refrigerator was not freezing. He said he would come out on Tuesday because he was having car trouble. I requested that he come early and he agreed. On Tuesday at about 2:00pm, he texted that he couldn't come because he had no means of transportation. Once again, he said it would be tomorrow. I insisted that he come early. No response. On Wednesday, both my husband and I called early in the day, to which no response was received. I called Angi and started a case on him and his company. I was about to send the complaint when I received a text that he would be coming out that afternoon. I stopped typing and decided to give him a chance to complete the job satisfactorily. He arrived about 3:30 on Wednesday afternoon. He removed the back and found that the compressor was running loudly and was very hot; he said 200 degrees. He also stated that the gauge, tube (whatever it is) to the freezer was set way too high (I know I didn't set it) and that was causing the compressor to overheat. He was able to get the compressor to cool down and started checking the gauges. At one point my husband checked the model number on the new compressor. It was not the number that the appliance store said would fit our model refrigerator, so do we don't know if this one really fits our refrigerator. For the remainder of time here, he was running around to the freezer and checking the temperature with a handheld thermometer. He would announce, "Its gone down a degree or two." Then it would go up again. The freezer temperature never got under 44 degrees. At one point, he asked if we had a charger cord for his (supposedly) updating device to update the computer on our refrigerator. My husband found one, plugged the device in, but Gilbert never used it. When I asked about the update, he said it didn't need it. He finally left after about an hour and a half. After he left last night, I texted him and asked what was the next step if the freezer didn't start up. No response. Today, Thursday morning the freezer is not working and the refrigerator is not cooling efficiently. Everything in the refrigerator is barely cool. Obviously, Gilbert doesn't know how to repair my appliance.
